Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Everything you need to know about hair systems, answered honestly.

Technically yes, same concept. But the comparison ends there. The wigs and toupees people remember from decades ago were thick, stiff, and obvious. What we work with today is entirely different. The base material is ultra-thin, the hair is real human hair, and the system is custom-fitted to your scalp and bonded with medical-grade adhesive. It sits flush against your skin with no visible edge and no detectable line.

Think of it less like a wig and more like a second scalp. You wash it, style it, sleep in it, and live in it around the clock.

Same concept as a wig, but decades ahead in every respect. Thinner base, real human hair, and a completely undetectable fit.

No surgery, no needles, no recovery time. The system bonds to your scalp with skin-safe adhesive or double-sided tape. The process is not unlike applying a plaster, though considerably more refined.

Your first appointment takes approximately 90 minutes. You arrive with hair loss and leave with a full head of hair, with no downtime required.

90 minutes from start to finish. No recovery period. You are free to return to work or any activity immediately after.

Hair systems are suitable for anyone experiencing hair loss or thinning, regardless of the cause. This includes male pattern baldness, alopecia, post-chemotherapy hair loss, post-pregnancy shedding, stress-related thinning, receding hairlines, and crown thinning. They are equally suitable for women.

If you simply want more density for cosmetic reasons, with no clinical hair loss at all, that is perfectly fine. There is no minimum level of hair loss required.

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure. In Singapore, costs typically range from $8,000 to $30,000, with results taking 12 to 18 months to appear and no guarantee of full coverage.

A hair system delivers full, visible results on the same day, with no surgery, no scarring, no waiting period, and complete control over the style, density, and length. If you have already undergone a transplant, a hair system can fill in areas that did not take. The two approaches work well alongside each other.

A hair transplant is surgical, costly, and takes over a year to show results. A hair system delivers same-day coverage, requires no surgery, and costs a fraction of the price.

The first consultation is free, with no obligation. There is nothing to prepare. Simply arrive with clean, dry hair.

During the session, your stylist will assess your scalp and hair loss area, discuss your lifestyle and preferences, and help determine the right base type, hair texture, colour, and density for your situation. For first-time clients, we also conduct a brief adhesive patch test. The consultation takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes and carries no commitment of any kind.

We recommend booking a consultation before your installation appointment, so there is no time pressure and you can make your decision comfortably.

A full installation, covering scalp preparation, bonding, blending, cut, and styling, takes approximately 90 minutes. For first-time clients, we allow up to 2 hours to ensure a thorough and unhurried experience.

For existing clients returning for a routine re-bond, appointments typically take 60 to 75 minutes.

The consultation is genuinely free, and there is no hard-selling of any kind.

Crowning was built on the belief that a client who feels comfortable and well-informed is far more valuable than one who was pressured into a service they were not ready for. Many of our most loyal clients attended two or three consultations before committing. We are here whenever you are ready.

We understand. Hair loss is a personal matter, and the last thing you want is to address it in an open salon environment.

Every appointment at Crowning is conducted in complete privacy. You will not be on an open salon floor visible to other clients. Our team approaches every consultation with sensitivity and professionalism, ensuring you feel at ease throughout.

When fitted by a professional, no. The hairline sits flush against your skin with no visible edge, no gap, and no transition line. The hair is hand-tied to replicate the natural direction of growth, and we blend it with your existing hair during the styling session.

We hear it regularly: clients whose spouses, parents, and close friends had no idea until they were told. That is the standard we hold every fitting to.

Yes. Our systems use real human hair, which means you can treat it accordingly. Blow-dry it, flat-iron it (up to 180°C), or curl it lightly. Water-based pomades and serums are suitable on the mid-lengths and ends.

The key rule is to keep products away from the scalp area. Oil-based products near the base weaken the bond over time. Every client receives a full product guide on installation day.

Apply products to the hair shaft and ends only. Keep anything oil-based away from the base and hairline, as it will degrade the bond over time.

Pricing is listed under Services and varies based on the base type and coverage area required. What remains consistent is our commitment to transparent pricing. There are no hidden costs and no surprise charges. Everything is explained clearly before you make any commitment.

For a personalised quote based on your specific requirements, book a free consultation and we will provide a full breakdown.

A free consultation includes a personalised price quote. There is no obligation and nothing expected from that conversation.

No hidden fees. The price covers the hair system unit itself, all adhesive materials used on the day, the full installation and styling session, and a personalised aftercare guide.

Maintenance visits, recommended every 3 to 6 weeks, are priced separately. We will walk you through the full ongoing cost breakdown during your consultation so you can plan with complete confidence.

Break it down by day. Across a 3 to 6 week wear cycle, a professional hair system works out to roughly $15 to $25 a day. Less than a specialty coffee.

A hair transplant in Singapore starts at $8,000 and can reach $30,000, in addition to surgery, a recovery period, and 12 to 18 months before results are visible. A hair system provides full coverage from day one, with no surgical procedure required.

Yes. We offer a free Crowning Experience where you receive a full consultation and try on the system to see how it looks and feels in person. There is no commitment and no pressure of any kind.

Yes. We offer bundled maintenance packages that reduce the per-visit cost compared to individual bookings. Please ask about available options during your consultation and we will recommend the most suitable programme for your wear cycle and budget.

Very little. Wash every 2 to 3 days with a sulphate-free shampoo, condition the ends, and style as normal. Most clients find it adds no more than 5 to 10 minutes to their morning routine and becomes second nature within the first week. It simply becomes part of how you care for your hair.

Yes, with one small adjustment. When rinsing, tilt your head back so the water flows from front to back rather than hitting the hairline directly. Avoid scrubbing at the scalp area.

Your shower routine otherwise remains unchanged. We will demonstrate the correct technique on your installation day so you feel confident from the outset.

Every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your bond type and how active you are. At each visit, we remove the system, deep-clean your scalp, apply fresh adhesive, and re-style the hair.

It becomes a routine appointment, not unlike a regular haircut, with the added benefit of a thorough scalp cleanse at each visit. We recommend booking your next appointment before leaving so you always have a time reserved.

Some edge lifting towards the end of a wear cycle is entirely normal. Every client receives a small home touch-up kit, including edge adhesive and a fine brush, so you can resecure any lifting edges yourself in under a minute.

If a larger section begins to lift, please do not attempt to remove the system yourself. Contact us and we will advise you accordingly or arrange an early re-bond visit.

Use: Sulphate-free shampoo, moisturising conditioner on the ends only, water-based styling products, light silicone serum on the hair shaft.

Avoid: Oil-based products near the scalp, anything with strong alcohol, dry shampoo at the base, untreated chlorine or salt water exposure, harsh chemical treatments.

We stock the products we actually recommend at the studio. Using the right ones makes a real difference to how long your unit and bond last.

Depends on the base type and how well you look after it. As a general guide, a Skin (Poly) base lasts 4 to 8 months and a Silk base lasts 6 to 12 months.

Clients who follow the care guidelines consistently achieve the upper end of those ranges. We assess the unit at every maintenance visit and will always give you advance notice before a replacement is needed, so you can plan accordingly.

Tape bonds hold for about 2 to 4 weeks. Liquid adhesive can go 4 to 6 weeks. In Singapore's humidity, most clients settle into 3 to 4 weeks as their natural sweet spot.

The bond does not give way suddenly. It gradually softens at the edges first, which is your natural indicator that a re-bond appointment is approaching.

The main culprits are frequent swimming in chlorinated or salt water without pre-treatment, heavy sweating without rinsing after, oil-based products near the base, sleeping on rough pillowcases, and skipping maintenance visits.

All of it is avoidable. We go through the full aftercare briefing on installation day so you know exactly what to watch out for.

Your stylist monitors the unit at every visit. The signs, including hair becoming harder to detangle, colour appearing dull, noticeable thinning, or small tears in the base material, develop gradually. We will inform you at least one visit in advance of a replacement being required, so you have time to plan.

Yes. For clients who sweat heavily, we recommend Ghost Bond XL, which is formulated to hold under heat and perspiration. After training, rinse with cool water and pat dry. Do not rub the hairline aggressively with a towel.

Most of our clients swim regularly. Before you get in, apply a light waterproof edge sealant around the hairline. After, rinse with fresh water straight away. Chlorine and salt left sitting in the hair dry it out and break down the bond over time.

Frequent swimmers (a few times a week) tend to come in every 3 weeks rather than 4 to 6. It's a small adjustment.

Yes. You do not take it off to sleep. It stays on for the whole wear cycle, 24 hours a day.

You wake up with your hair already there. Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase to cut down on friction, and loosely tie back longer hair before bed.

Our installation is set up for Singapore's climate. The adhesives we use are chosen for their performance in heat and humidity, and we apply a scalp protector that seals the bond against moisture.

Clients have worn systems here through Singapore summers for years without issues. The product choice and application method are what make the difference.

All our adhesives are dermatologically tested for direct scalp contact. Before any first installation, we carry out a mandatory patch test 48 hours in advance. A small amount is applied on your inner arm or behind the ear to rule out any reaction.

We also apply a scalp protector barrier before every bond, which reduces how much the adhesive actually contacts your skin.

If you have skin sensitivities, eczema, or past reactions to plasters, please mention it at your consultation. We have options.

No. When the system is installed and removed correctly, your natural hair isn't affected and keeps growing normally underneath.

Where damage happens is when people stretch their wear cycle too long, skip professional removal, or try to pull the system off without solvent. That's why we handle removal at every maintenance visit rather than leaving it to chance.

Yes, particularly with lace base systems, which use an open mesh that lets air through. Many clients expect it to feel uncomfortable and are surprised that it does not.

We also do a full removal and deep scalp cleanse at every maintenance visit, so your scalp gets a proper reset between bonds.

For mild sensitivity, a hypoallergenic adhesive and the scalp protector barrier are usually sufficient. We will assess your scalp during the consultation and recommend the safest approach for your specific condition.

If you have an active concern such as open wounds, severe eczema, or a fungal infection, we will advise waiting until it clears before proceeding. Scalp health takes priority. The hair system can wait.
